I am a Ukrainian born artist living in UK since 1990. The event is an exploration of Arte Povera v Cucina Povera. Both of these concepts originate in Italy but can be found in any culture Arte Povera or Poor Art began as a movement during the rebellious 60s in Italy. It tried to redefine modern art conventions by stating that art can be anything and everywhere.

It was seeking to find poetic beauty in the everyday objects around us. At the start of my artistic career in the eighties I painted on wooden chopping boards, spoons, bowls and other wooden utensils used in the kitchen. These works quickly became very popular and highly collectable. My early works embody the ethos of Poor Art. My work is also related to the kitchen. La Cucina Povera or 'Poor Man's Kitchen' is another concept that came from Italy but exists in all cultures and is now considered to be an embodiment of a healthy diet.

The event is an exhibition of my works on wooden kitchen objects will begin with a short talk on the subject of Arte Povera and about my art specifically. This will be followed by a three course Ukranian meal in the style of La Cucina Povera showcased by my daughter Anya who curates Valentina Gallery and owns cafe Soupchick opposite.
