I’m very fond of paint. Fond of paint’s physicality. Combined with various languages of Colour it becomes a fascinating medium begging to be explored and entertained.

I’m also drawn to certain details within the overall picture, it’s my fascination. When I look at a landscape I’m interested in points of architectural detail, features as it were, possibly illuminated by light. The surrounding information can become a blur but these focal points are what intrigues me. Portraiture is the same the features or expression in a face, to me, is what captures my attention and interest.

I like painting in oils. I have used acrylics but because oils take a while to dry they can be manipulated over a longer period of time. I think it is because I studied Sculpture that I am happy to play with paint as a material, adding and removing it to achieve something interesting, different, a little more visually dynamic. I find oil paint adventurous and mark making quite serendipitous and I hope this excitement and energy comes across in the finished piece.
